Baillie says fixing our economy must be the top priority
HALIFAX, NS – Progressive Conservative leader Jamie Baillie says Nova Scotia needs a long-term plan to fix the economy and create jobs.
Data from Statistics Canada shows Nova Scotia lost 8,600 full time jobs between July 2015 and July 2016.
“The Ivany Report said it’s ‘now or never.’ Premier McNeil clearly chose never,” says Baillie. “Good paying jobs, especially in rural Nova Scotia, are disappearing under this Liberal government. We need a plan to create jobs now.”
On the province’s North Shore, for example, full time employment dropped by a whopping 5,200 in the last year. The unemployment rate has increased from 7.5 per cent to 9.2 per cent in the last year.
Earlier this week, Baillie announced that a PC government would bring vocational training back to schools to prepare and empower a new generation of young workers.
“The Ivany Report highlighted the importance of growing the economy to sustain this province for the long term,” says Baillie. “A growing economy and more jobs means more funding for doctors, schools, roads and other vital public services.”
