SACKVILLE, NS – John Giannakos, owner and operator of Hellas Restaurant, will be the Progressive Conservative candidate for Sackville-Cobequid in the next provincial election.

Giannakos was officially acclaimed as the party’s standard bearer on Monday, August 8.

“Having lived and worked in this community for decades, I am honoured to have the opportunity to represent the people of Sackville-Cobequid,” says Giannakos. “I will make sure I listen carefully and take their concerns to the House of Assembly.”

Giannakos says the McNeil Liberals have hurt Nova Scotia families by increasing service fees, wasting taxpayers’ money on a bad ferry deal and causing young people to move away by cutting the film tax credit.

“Stephen McNeil has made some very bad decisions and has not governed in a way that will help get Nova Scotia moving in the right direction,” says Giannakos. “Jamie Baillie and the PC team have the solid economic plan to move the province forword.”

Giannakos, a graduate of the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology (1983) in Petroleum Resources Technology, supports the exploration of clean energy alternatives as a way to foster economic growth.

“One way in which we could create jobs here at home is to safely explore onshore shale gas development,” says Giannakos. “Rather than explore that option, the Liberals banned it without so much as defining the regulations around it.”

Baillie says he is confident that Giannakos’ experience as a well-respected small business owner will be of great benefit in the next PC government.

“John knows what hard work is, as he has had to do it every day in his business,” says Baillie. “It’s that mix of skills and character that he will bring to the job of being the MLA for Sackville-Cobequid. I know his constituents will be well-represented by him.”

The Sackville-Cobequid Progressive Conservative Association will hold an official nomination meeting on August 20 to celebrate Giannakos’ candidacy.
