ARGYLE, NS – Argyle-Barrington MLA Chris d’Entremont says it’s time for the McNeil government to partner with the local municipalities of Argyle and Barrington to help people through the area’s serious drought.
Many people have been without water for more than a month now. d’Entremont says he’s hearing from people whose home care is being cancelled because there is no water. He’s also concerned about a lice outbreak because many families don’t have enough water to have the showers to get rid of it.
“This is a very serious situation. It’s time for the McNeil government to step in and help people in this emergency,” says d’Entremont. “This is the worst I’ve seen in all my time as MLA. We’ve been waiting for rain, but it’s just not coming fast enough.”
Tomorrow, a proposal for a new well at the Islands and Districts Fire Department will go before the council at their regular meeting. d’Entremont supports the extra well and wants to see the McNeil government also come to the table with solutions.
“Clean running water has become an essential part of people’s lives,” says d’Entremont. “I’m very worried about the consequences if this drought continues without any support for the residents.”
