South Colchester Academy named finalist in Samsung Canada’s Solve for Tomorrow campaign

BROOKFIELD, NS – Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley MLA Larry Harrison is encouraging all Nova Scotians to vote for South Colchester Academy in Samsung Canada’s first-ever Solve for Tomorrow competition.

The Brookfield school is one of 11 finalists in the nation-wide campaign. The prize is $50,000 and an amazing STEM (Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering) experience for their entire school.

“I am so proud of the hard work of the students at South Colchester Academy to become finalist in Samsung Canada’s first-ever Solve for Tomorrow competition,” says Harrison. “I hope all Nova Scotians will vote for them and help them win.”

For phase two of the competition, the students created a video about how the river by their school continues to flood their soccer field. They researched why this is happening and what can be done to fix it. On March 17, they won $20,000 and advanced to phase three of the competition.

“It’s inspiring to see how these young students are learning about the river and the impact flooding is having on their soccer field and the ecosystem,” says Harrison. “This information can benefit our entire community. I hope people will join me in spreading the word about this wonderful initiative right in our backyard.”

People can vote online at http://www.solvefortomorrow.ca/ until April 18, 2016.
