PC leader asks Premier McNeil for a plan to help people come home
HALIFAX, NS – Progressive Conservative leader Jamie Baillie wants the McNeil government to help Nova Scotians come home from Fort McMurray.
“Some Nova Scotians have lost everything in the fires in Fort McMurray,” says Baillie. “We need to stick together. Charities are doing their best to meet the needs of evacuees. We, as a Province, need to help those who want to come home. Work is underway to identify displaced Nova Scotians. Now we need to mobilize, working with the airlines, moving companies and ground transportation to make it happen.”
Some people may want to come home immediately, while others may need time to assess the damage before making a decision. Baillie says that’s why we need a plan now to help make that transition as smooth as possible.
“Nova Scotians are resilient,” says Baillie. “The stories of generosity in the face of so much chaos and devastation are remarkable. It’s important that we return that generosity as our friends and families members start to rebuild.”
Baillie says it is equally important that we have supports in place when they get here.
“They need jobs. They need places to live,” says Baillie. “Our government can play a leadership role in making all that happen. We have an opportunity to support our fellow Nova Scotians and their families. Let’s take up the challenge and bring them home.”
