Baillie says entrepreneurial skills a great asset for government
LUNENBURG, NS –Brian Pickings, a journeyman carpenter who owns his own carpentry business, will be the Progressive Conservative candidate for Lunenburg in the next provincial election.
Pickings was officially acclaimed as the party’s standard bearer in the constituency on Tuesday, July 26.
“I am honoured to have the opportunity to work for the people of Lunenburg,” says Pickings. “They will be better off under a PC government with lower taxes and economic conditions that will encourage private sector growth that we so sorely need in rural areas. Stephen McNeil’s Liberal government has failed to create those conditions.”
Pickings says Jamie Baillie, with his strong financial background, understands that social structures like healthcare and education will continue to suffer if Nova Scotia’s economy isn’t improved.
“Jamie Baillie and his team know that Nova Scotia has all of the assets we need to create a healthy economy,” says Pickings. “The Liberals have not shown the ability to capitalize on those assets so we see people moving away to find jobs. It doesn’t have to be this way.”
Baillie says Pickings’ small business experience will be of great benefit for the next PC government.
“Brian has real life knowledge of how red tape, high taxes and ever increasing electricity rates can impact small businesses,” says Baillie. “I know he will be a hard worker and a strong voice for the people of Lunenburg and will represent their best interests in the House of Assembly.”
