Doctors, patients to speak at meeting on June 12
SYDNEY, NS – All Cape Bretoners who are affected by the doctor shortage are invited to attend a public meeting on Sunday, June 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion.
The public meeting will be an opportunity for patients to share stories, hear from doctors and have a constructive dialogue on health care in Cape Breton.
For months now, hundreds of people have been sharing their stories in the media, online and to their MLAs about the challenges they face with the healthcare system in Cape Breton.
This public meeting will be an opportunity to bring everyone together to find solutions and let voices be heard.

“Anyone interested in talking or listening about the future of health care in Cape Breton should come,” says Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg MLA Alfie MacLeod. “Let’s all get together, make sure our voices are heard and help come up with a solution.”
Nearly 10,000 Cape Bretoners don’t have a family doctor. Many are forced to wait in ERs for hours for everything from chronic illness treatment to getting prescriptions filled.
Doctors, nurses, administration staff and other health professionals care about their patients and are doing their best with what they have. But their hands are tied.
“We are hearing from so many people about the shortage of doctors in Cape Breton. It’s a real issue for so many people here,” says Northside Westmount MLA Eddie Orrell. “Please share this event with your family, friends and neighbours. All are welcome. We’d love to have you there.”
