My fellow PCs, I write with a sad heart today, reflecting on the loss of our long-time friend and supporter Obbie Mitchell.

Obbie was a true-blue loyal PC. He worked in every election, whether we were up or down. He was proud to serve as Chair of the Cape Breton Council at a time when we didn’t have any MLAs from Cape Breton Island. He was always there when we needed him.

Obbie was named an Honourary President of our Party in February 2014. I know he was very proud of this distinction. Last year, Alfie MacLeod gave Obbie a license plate for his scooter. It read “Honourary President”. Obbie attached it with pride.

Incidentally, the first scooter Obbie ordered came in red. He promptly returned it and waited insistently for a blue one. That’s Obbie.

I have known Obbie since I was in the PC Youth. He was always a kind, gentle and supportive soul who cared about our Party and what we want to accomplish for Nova Scotia.

To his wife Mary and the entire family, I express our heartfelt condolences. The PC Party grieves with you and thanks you for sharing Obbie with us for these many, many years.

Jamie Baillie
Leader, Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia
